In Microsoft Office, every user can rely on an AutoCorrect file. This file is hidden somewhere deep in the C-drive, but can be accessed via the AutoCorrect options window.
Yes, of course you can. That is what’s so handy about AutoCorrect. What's more, everything is automatically applied to Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. When migrating to a new Office version, you just take the file with you. This means you never lose any important additions.
Below we’ll show you how to complete the AutoCorrect list in Microsoft Word.
Situation: You always mistype a certain word. Sometimes, your fingers just can't seem to type the word correctly.
How do you deal with this situation? In the ribbon, click ‘File’, then ‘Options’. Next, click on Proofing on the left. There you will find the ‘AutoCorrect options’ button.
The next dialog shows a lot more details. You can see the list of existing autocorrections.
As you can see, there are quite a few. These are common typos that Office automatically corrects for you.
You can now add to this list. In this example, you can see how the word venster has been added to the list of preferred spelling. The exact typo you enter in the left column is converted by Office into the word you want on the right: “vestner” becomes “venster”. That’s very helpful.
Even complex words that you need to type repeatedly can be added here. Naturally, this does not include words such as “or”, “and” or “the”. Suppose, for example, you often need to write the words “college decisions”. AutoCorrect makes it as easy for you as you like. Below, we simply replace the letter “c” with “college decisions”.
But what if you don't want to use AutoCorrect? Sometimes “c” is just “c” and not “college decisions”. Simply click on Undo Automatic Corrections.
